After the last exam in the 7th
semester, I decided to went to Malang (again). After all the mess that I did
this year I had a plan to jumped into Bromo Crater. Lol. I mean no. I just want
to see the sunrise from an altitude of 2,329 meters above sea level. I imagined it would
be kissed the warm light of the sun and hugged by possessive cold fog. Both of
them fought over my tiny body that was not even mined and there is no defeatist
between them. Then I told it to my beloved partner in crime, Faris. But unfortunately,
I’d changed my mind and removed all of my expectation before because I woke up
late. Faris picked me up at 8 o’clock and of course, we couldn’t saw a sunrise.

Faris rode his motorbike with me
behind him. His motorbike is a *ond* b**t and the seats are not soft at all. It
felt so far away with never-ending road. We went through the winding road with
the right side is a forest and the left side was a cliff or terraced plant land.
Ugghh… My butt felt toasted.

He knew I was scared and feeling
pain. So, he tried to break the ice with an impromptu quiz. “Do you know what
planting methods are on sloping land?” he asked. I said “terracing” quickly
because I knew it since in elementary school. That question always asked in a natural
science exam. I even memorized it by heart. Wow… It seems we’re all going to
put our thinking caps on to tackle this big problem. But at that time our big
problem was to get lost together. Wow again.

Finally, we arrived at the intersection.
Faris forgot about the road that we had to take. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a
cellphone signal here. Until some time later there was a man with a thick
beard, as high as 1.7 meters and wearing a skullcap complete with a sarong hanging
on his shoulder approaching us. He knew that we’re get lost. So, he offered to
drive us to the gate of the national park only by paying IDR50. Faris couldn’t refuse
it. Either did I.

He told us to follow him. He took us through a narrow road in the middle of rice fields. The narrower and steeper. fifteen minutes we followed him and I couldn’t hide my fear, so I forced Faris to stop
him, pay him as properly as we should, and back to the big road. It’s not that
I’m thinking negatively, but I’m just worried about being hijacked. (Then
what’s the difference??? Lol). We go back to the main path and just follow
instinct. “We are better off on the main road so people will find our bodies
faster than die somewhere that other people don’t know.” I thought so.

Thank God finally we arrived at the
gate. It turns out it only took 35 minutes to get here. I am very relieved. We
bought two entrance tickets for IDR60 thousand each. I am thankful because I am
not a foreign tourist. The price can be much more expensive many times over for
them. Haha. But we still have to rode again to the uphill and downhill using a
motorbike. I didn’t feel strong enough because my backbone feels like it’s
going to come off and my butt was burnt.

The first spot we came was whispering
sand or “Pasir Berbisik”. there’s no mistaking that this place is also named as
a sea of sand because it’s as wide as the eye can see is sand, sand, and sand. Even
the wind brings sand to pierce our eyes. So, do not forget to bring a mask or
glasses if you want to go here.

We continued the journey to Bromo
crater. Faris offered me to go there by ride a horse but I refused. So we
headed there by our own foot, climbing one step after another. To bid fair, I regret
the refusal of Faris’s offer because I felt a cold sweat and had needed to
defecate. Damn it, the toilet is far below and there is no one at the top. I told Faris to took a break and breath. “Five
minutes.” I say. We continued and Faris guided me like an fragile old
grandmother. And yay… we reached the top and start to smelled sulfur. Really
stung our noses until the feeling of want to defecate disappeared. We took
pictures and enjoyed the view from above. I can see how small the people down
there and I could eat
them up. Hihi.

There are edelweiss florists but Faris has no intention of buying them for me. He says “we shouldn’t pick it if
we truly love it.” and I had never demanded him to bought it because I thought
the words were true. “let’s enjoy her beauty in silence. Silence is the best
way to love flowers as beautiful as Edelweiss.” After enjoyed the view, we went
down.

On the way home, we found another
beautiful photo spot. I do not know what is the name but it is just like vast
grasslands. In the middle of this reeds, It felt like I was lying down on a
green mattress with cotton that comes out messy everywhere. I was wondering
where is the boundary between sky, fog, and reeds itself. Everything is white. I
forgot that it would become dark and Faris persuaded me to return to Malang.
